HAMNET (12) stars Jessie Buckley in an Oscar winning performance as Agnes Hathaway, wife of William Shakespeare played by Paul Mescal.
Set in 16th century England, young tutor and writer William Shakespeare meets Agnes and they fall in love. They have three children, two daughters – Susanna and Judith – and a son – Hamnet. Shakespeare’s career as a playwright starts to take off but this tests his relationship with Agnes and his children. Then tragedy strikes.
This powerful story of love and loss is based on the 2020 novel by Maggie O’Farrell who co-wrote the screenplay with Academy Award winning writer/director Chloé Zhao. It also stars Emily Watson, Joe Alwyn and Jacobi Jupe in supporting roles.
