The Christophers (15)

Screening on Friday 6th November, at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm.

THE CHRISTOPHERS (15) is an entertaining comedy-drama directed by Steven Soderbergh, featuring a highly praised double-act with Sir Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel.

The story revolves around Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen), a cynical, reclusive and broke former star of London’s 1960s pop-art scene who has stopped painting. Desperate for an inheritance, his estranged adult children (played by James Corden and Jessica Gunning) hatch a scheme. They hire Lori Butler (Michaela Coel), a young art restorer and former forger, to infiltrate Julian’s life as a prospective assistant. Her goal is to locate and secretly complete a fabled series of valuable, unfinished canvases known as “The Christophers” so they can be ‘discovered’ upon Julian’s death. However, as Lori and Julian engage in a tense battle of wits, they form an unexpected connection. Their on screen chemistry and sparring matches provide the heart of the film.
